My work talks about the essence of everyday life, memory and dreams. I generate a fast and loose painting. Different characters and everyday objects that tell stories appear. Through painting I look for a way to communicate ideas, thoughts and worlds. Through color and the line a movement is understood in the objects as well as in the different planes. The tones appear according to each situation and they enhance the idea as well as the forms. Inside the painting there are two readings, the object and the situation and a mysterious and incomprehensible part. This makes the viewer generate a thought through it. Every day I look for infinite possibilities to paint, the selection of situations or objects goes according to the feelings that I may have at each moment.
_____
Painting is a constant dialogue with the space that surrounds me and with myself, a reflection. I generate a constant collection of images such as dreams, situations and feelings from the daily diary. It is through memory and observation of color that the idea is sparked. My gaze is like a highlighter, I give importance and accentuate nature, which often goes unnoticed and we forget the value it has on this earth. I use painting as a tool, the display is related to the image, I can have paintings on large format fabric (2 meters) giving the idea of beings like organic plants. While I can have paintings in “nano” size (3cm), matchbox, playing with the idea of turning on memory and fragmenting images, this paintings can work together as well as separately. On the other hand, I work on paintings in round formats, accentuating the idea of the cycles of the earth and women.
For me painting is a daily necessity, I generate a loose and fast painting, many times I use my problems and feelings as a resource to develop it. At the same time, I keep an analogue diary with my grandfathers camera, this serves as an emotional resource to support ideas. The color and texture of the oil is fundamental for the development of each idea, saturated and desaturated gives strength to my message. The texture generates a combination of colors on the canvas that often does not mix and therefore the lines of color and the brushstroke are seen, something highly characterized in my painting. Lately I use resources such as my grandfathers plant books, different old stamps and a series of plants that I research and reproduce in water. Later I plan to analyze them under a microscope.
Painting is a constant exercise, it is in constant transformation and makes me aware every day. Nature is shaking us with devastating climate change. The body in seasons (climate), complex situations that enrich a trajectory and continuous process. I keep curiosity on the surface, my driving force. I awaken sensitivity, I question where I am and what I am doing and where I want to be. The plant is a living mirror of the human being.
Since the residency in Menorca I have been working in a research about nature and plants, I develop a series of oil paintings in different sizes and materials. In one side I work large-format paintings on loose fabric measuring 2 meters by 2 meters. Most of the paintings generally tend to show plant bodies, roots and islands. On the other hand, I develop paintings on matchboxes, nano paintings (2 x 3 x 4 cm), this tiny formats shows fragmented landscapes, human body vegetation and plants. I also develop paintings in round formats, each shape goes according the idea, managing to transmit with greater clarity. I play with the idea and the material, in the case of the matchboxes to light up the memory and warm up and fragmentize a landscape.
The green kingdom books and plant stamps are key to understand the plants, transportation through colonialism, and climate warming.During the residency in the island I started questioning my positioning as a Latin American woman with European ancestors. Upon arriving in Lima I came across my grandfather's “Regno Verde” book collection brought by ships from Italy to Peru. I investigate a series of plant stamps that are part of my great-grandfather's collection. This makes me understand plants from different parts of the world as if they were people who migrate and move. I find similarities in vegetation both in Lima and in the Balearic Islands.
Through my project I want to give visibility to nature, which many times goes unnoticed. Understand processes of colonialism through plants, which were transferred just like people. I question climate change and how it affects us, I reflect this in the paintings with fragmented matchboxes, this landscape that burns and fades. People are reflected in the paintings by having plants from different parts of the world. The paintings show figurative images on the one hand, while on the other hand they leave an abstract side so the viewer investigates and develops open thinking.
